Relief Operators

Position Summary

In the absence of the Shift Supervisor, assures the efficient, effective, and safe use of plant labor, raw materials and equipment in operating the plant.  Fills-in where needed in all key operator positions; such as, Press, Dryer, Crane, Strander, Finishing, including assistant positions.  Must know all operator positions and step in to assist where needed. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Exercises general supervisions of the shift, when filling in for the Shift Supervisor. 
• Makes rounds throughout shift to all job centers: 
  • Takes attendance and insures that employees are on time and properly relieved. 
  • Assures compliance with established operating procedures. 
  • Checks to see that all mobile equipment operators have completed their Mobile Operator’s Report and follow up on any deficiencies. 
  • Assists operators when problems develop. 
  • Directs shift mechanics and electricians when repairs are required. 
  • Takes appropriate action when necessary to insure board quality (i.e. physical specifications, squareness, cut quality, grading, thickness, strapping, warehousing and loading). 
• Contacts the Production Manager and/or Human Resources Manager should the need for disciplinary action be required. 
• Assists shift supervisor and operators where needed in the plant; floats all areas of the plant as required. 
• Maintain operations by reading, interpreting, and applying complex written instructions in the form of Standard Operating Procedures and other written instructions. 
• Performs general physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, moving whole body and multilimbed coordination 
• Performs other duties as may be assigned.
